Lifestyle: the four daily levers that matter most
Decades of evidence (NHG, WHO) point to four daily factors that explain most modifiable health risk. None of them alone defines someone — but together, and combined with biomarkers, they predict who needs attention.
The four core factors
Preventa scores these the way Dutch primary care does: isolated cases are usually fine; combinations and severity trigger follow-up.
- •Smoking — the single largest avoidable risk
- •Alcohol — pattern and weekly load
- •Physical activity — minutes per week vs. WHO targets
- •Diet — fruit, vegetable and ultra-processed intake
Measured, not just reported
Where an Oura Ring is worn, sleep and movement are measured directly instead of recalled. That means activity and sleep answers can be checked against what actually happened.
- •Sleep duration and sleep efficiency — night by night
- •Steps and active minutes — against WHO activity targets
- •Resting heart rate and HRV — how well the body recovers
- •Readiness — Oura's own daily recovery scale, shown for context
How lifestyle amplifies biomarker risk
Lifestyle factors rarely cause one isolated problem. They amplify the silent conditions already developing — for example, smoking compounds cardiovascular risk on top of cholesterol, and inactivity compounds metabolic risk on top of glucose. Short or fragmented sleep does the same, pushing blood pressure and blood sugar in the wrong direction.
What good follow-up looks like
Recommendations are personalised, prescriptive and rank-ordered. We never throw the whole list at someone — only the top priorities that will move the needle for them.
